Fashion is an ever evolving and vibrant segment. Indians are getting more and more conscious about their looks & elegance. Their preference grows towards ethnic wear & western wear. A contemporary fashion getting popular in recent times is Indo-western wear. This is a creative blend of styles of any two or more cultures. Indo-western apparels give a contemporary look along with a flavor of Indian heritage.

Indo-Western garments are being largely preferred by Indians; male, female and children. These garments are gaining acceptance in the Indian mindset and are becoming the choice of apparels at formal and informal events. Fusion wear is preferred for all classes and ages. Enrique Iglesias sported in his music videos wearing sporting embroidered kurtas is a classic example.

A shorter version of the kurta is called kurta. Kurti is paired with denim pants or trousers which are quite popular. Another segment of Indo-western fashion wear is a straight-cut pant-style salwar and a dupatta which is highly preferred in India. A traditional kameez is often coupled with parallel pants that replace the baggy salwar and it usually made of the same fabric. Dupatta is used as a long scarf or stole, with a decidedly western look.

The traditional Indian salwar has sleeves. Indo-western designs may be sleeveless or use thin spaghetti straps to resemble the style of halter and tank tops. The length of Indo-western salwar and kurtas are shorter than traditional garments. Plunging necklines are common in indo-western dresses.

The saree has been modified to give western look. Synthetic and chiffon sarees, which are easier to drape and manage, are preferred by most young women. Saree blouses have undergone a major makeover. They’re a cross between the traditional blouse and sexy party tops that complement jazzy sarees for special occasions.

This trend of Indo-western fusion wear has also gradually spread to bridal wear. Sarees are being draped in the Gracian style, and saree blouses are becoming more and more westernized in the pattern. Lehengas worn with halter tops is another example of Indo-western fusion that is being accepted as wedding wear. This trend offer choice for fashion savvy shoppers who are ready to experiment with variations in styles. Not only are they stylish, but also make the wearer stand out in the crowd.
